Online collaborative project creating a world geographic database
There are lots of ways to help with this project. Local knowledge is key to accuracy, if you sign up, find your local area you can add notes to the map or resolve others. I have been doing this for the Torbay Area.

I have recently made some more updates, mostly around two local schools changing use.
Devon School of English is now Preston Bridge School
Tower House School is now St Michael's CE Primary School
I have updated the map and added some notes. Details can be found on my OSM profile
The project would really benefit from some local help, as it is better for one person to create a note and then have a 2nd person resolve this, that way there are some checks / balances to the contributions to ensure accuracy.

MAPSCII
This is an interesting little utility to draw an ASCII map on the terminal. It uses OpenStreetMap for the mapping data.
Open a terminal and enter
telnet mapscii.me
You should then be presented with a world map:

Open Street Map Contributions
Further to my post yesterday. I have been contributing to the Open Street Map project [1] with a few updates for the Torbay area, these are detailed on my OSM profile [2].
These are mostly :
Adding website data for local schools
Updating other data such as the School name if this has changed or different from the map listing

OpenStreetMap is a map of the world, created by people like you and free to use under an open licence.
Open Street Map is a great project that anyone can get involved with, using open data so mapping data can be used freely in accordance with the terms on the website.
I am in the process of finding local attractions, business etc and adding links to their websites. This hopefully helps with promotion and helps the website develop generally.
