DFD
Document Freedom Day (DFD) is an annual event aimed at promoting open standards for documents. The next event takes place on Wednesday
Wednesday, 26 March 2025.
Open standards are important for interoperability between software and also the ability to read documents not just now, but in the future.
There are several key organisations who are working on these standards and how to maintain them.
An independent self-governing meritocratic entity, created by a large group of Free Software advocates, in the form of a charitable Foundation under German law (gemeinnützige rechtsfähige Stiftung des bürgerlichen Rechts).
OASIS Open is where individuals, organizations, and governments come together to solve some of the world’s biggest technical challenges through the development of open code and open standards.
These are supported by organisations such as the Digital Freedom Foundation (who have taken over the running of DFD), the Free software foundation Europe and many others, a list can be found on opensource.com
- Creative commons also plays a role in this, as to allow a document, video or picture to be modified then it needs to be opened and edited.
