New method uses AI to design artificial proteins

This research is related to the 2024 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Using AI to design proteins.

Protein design aims to create customized antibodies for therapies, biosensors for diagnostics, or enzymes for chemical reactions. An international research team has now developed a method for designing large new proteins better than before and producing them with the desired properties in the laboratory.

Mpox

Mpox (formerly known as Monkey Pox) seems to be spreading amid some serious concerns from, among others the WHO.

There is a thread on the Fediverse, with further discussion on the topic.

Cases now found in Pakistan and one in Sweden, so does appear to be spreading, hence the concern.

Microbes found to destroy certain 'forever chemicals'

The subject of 'so called' forever chemicals hit the headlines from time to time, new research indicates that microbes can perhaps play a part in how to deal with these, other than trying to not produce them in the first place of course.

Left and Right handed molecules

Some interesting research has taken place and there is now a better explanation of why we have right and left handed molecules.

The article Breakthrough’ could explain why life molecules are left- or right-handed was published on Science.org and shared on the Fediverse.

I have asked a question about this and also how cis & trans molecules are also created. even though this is referred to as stereoisomerism, so a different topic area.
