This seems to be the latest tactic META are using to track users without their consent. Potentially a violation of at least 3 laws in the EU.

Update, well sort of, Meta is now going to use unpublished photos to train AI.

It is no longer safe to move our governments and societies to US clouds

The very short version: it is madness to continue transferring the running of European societies and governments to American clouds. Not only is it a terrible idea given the kind of things the “King of America” keeps saying, the legal sophistry used to justify such transfers, like the nonsense letter the Dutch cabinet sent last week, has now been invalidated by Trump himself. And why are we doing this? Convenience. But it is very scary to make yourself 100% dependent on the goodwill of the American government merely because it is convenient. So let’s not. [1]

Looks like the new Zoom terms and conditions now allow training AI on user content with no opt out. 🤣 See section 10.2

I am not too sure what data is shared, or how it is used, but big tech is clearly incapable of playing fairly, we have companies using all uploaded data to train AI, for example photos, text, code anything and usually the consent is given via terms and conditions so end users are so tied in to closed systems, the users auto consent weather they like it or not.

The fact that zoom is used by organisation such as child protection agencies also for me RAISES SERIOUS CONCERNS.

Please consider using an alternative that actually protects and respects privacy such as Big Blue Button

This is a really important development in that it shows that the GDPR and the Law are to be followed. Massive win for our personal data protection. People are waking up and finally taking back control and see what big tech is really doing.

Not a week goes by without Facebook or rather its parent company Meta Being in the news. A recent article, raises yet more questions about what happens to our personal data once Facebook / Meta get hold of it.

• Facebook and personal data

The GDPR is very clear as to how data can be used, the fact Facebook appear unable to control what goes on, shows they are not fit for purpose. Companies or individuals that use Facebook could end up complicit in any data misuse.

The problem probably arises as YOU sign up to Facebook and therefore consent to them using your data, photos etc.

This is why CHOICE is important. I don't have a problem with education establishments using Facebook for student communication, I just won't use it. I do object to people assuming I use Facebook.

The UK / EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) state that in the Information commissioners office website [1] upon request of data removal, data should be deleted within “An organisation has one calendar month “. [2] So why is it that upon recently deleting an old hotmail e-mail. it takes 60 days as per quote from their website.

To protect your account from accidentally being closed, we may ask you to prove your identity and intent. For example, if you forgot your account info and had to reset your security info, you must wait 60 days before closing your account. 


You can reopen this account, preventing the closure, by signing back in within 60 days. To reopen, you'll need to prove your identity using your current account security information.

This account becomes unrecoverable 60 days after you've closed the account, meaning that you'll be unable to reopen it.

One of the rather pathetic excuses seems to be that you may request this in error. To me this is just patronising. People are not stupid, big or small tech is not above the law, even though they seem to think that most of the time. Just delete the data within 30 days.

If I request my account is deleted from the Fediverse it gets deleted. Same goes for Gitlab repositories.

Another reason to avoid big tech. If you need e-mail, pads, collaborative editing and storage, then Disroot [3] is excellent as a service too.
