In my first ansi weather post I was looking at using sed to strip colour codes from the program output. It turns out and covered in the second post that all that is needed is the -a false argument to the program.
Nevertheless, sed is still worth learning. To this end, the following resources may be useful.

If you save this in to a text file you can follow along with the video. It is similar to the text from the video.

Debian Testing Feb 2021
I decided to have a go at upgrading a netbook Debian 10 to Debian 11. Buster –> Bullseye.
I am following the instructions found at [3]. I have also included links to release notes for both the current and next version.
Upgrade seemed to go well. However I seem to be having networking issue, so am investigating further,

Superbowl XL
So as well as it being day two of FOSDEM. Today is Superbowl XL, this year taking place between the KC chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last year Superbowl champions against, led by Patrick Mahomes take on Tampa Bay, led by, one of the most successful QB's, Tom Brady. This should result in excellent match up.

Arduino IDE on Debian
The Arduino IDE package has been updated and is now back in Debian. It is also available in Debian 10.8.
I have installed the current version
2:1.0.5+dfsg2-4.1
Which is working fine.
apt install arduino arduino-core
So the first task is to add your user to the dialout group:-
You need to authenticate for this:-
And set the folder where projects will be stored, usually this is ~/sketchbook
You are then presented with the main IDE Screen:-
If you need to tweak some IDE settings then look at preferences:-
I now need to update my netbook version to:
1.8.13-dfsg1-1.

Mauritius Oil
Back in October, there was a Major oil spill in Mauritius. Thanks to other news, this has largely been forgotton about.
This is the worst ecological disaster that the country has ever known.
Before the leak was stopped, around 1000 tonnes of oil leaked from the ship and severely contaminated the precious shoreline and lagoons.
A reminder that this happened, an article from, back in October, by Ecowatch is here
Really good article, if there is a follow up to show what the long term consequences of this were I will post it.
For anyone unsure of where Mauritius is, there is a map below from Open Street Map.

20.04.2 LTS
Lubuntu 20.04.2, has been relesed, this is the lastest of the LTS (Long Term Support) updates for the system. You can find more info on the blog page.
Lubuntu is a derivative of the Ubuntu Operating system which in turn is built on Debian. Links in the list below.
Lubuntu is great for both low and high specification systems, and can help bring new life to old hardware, which given the number of people without devices could be a really effective way to help bridge the digital divide.
Organizations such as the good thing foundation help to build digital skills, sadly this does not cover fully free and open source software, let alone decentralized social media networks such as Mastodon.
There is no reason why LibreOffice can't be taught and promoted along side MS Office.
The more people to ASK for support with things like Lubuntu etc they will hopefully eventually provide the choice and associated support for alternatives.
