DNA Base Models
So to carry on with my project to build molecular models. I have built the 4 main base molecules associated with DNA
So the following is are based on the structures in the above infographic
Note:I ran out of 3 bond nitrogens while building these, so at least one has a 4 bond nitrogen, so this explains if there is what looks like a stray bond.
I have now built a DNA model from popsicle sticks, cardboard, string and glue. The bases are colour coded and labelled, to match the molecule models they represent.

Water Security Issues for Lithium Mining in Chile
Lithium is used to make electric car batteries, the apparent 'environmentally friendly' alternative to cars using Petrol or Diesel,. which of course comes from crude oil.
This article looks at the environmental impact of extracting Lithium from the ground. I have posted similar articles previously as the procerss uses significant amounts of ground water, which has an impact on both people and the environment.

Academics on Mastodon
As the Fediverse expands, there are more and more people within academia creating accounts, especially on Mastodon.
This is an excellent resource to find people, journals, articles, pre-print and other material, as well as academic institutions. Great to see Plymouth University on there too. Academics on Mastodon

Life on Venus?
Life on Venus? MIT’s “Absolutely Surprising” Discovery of Amino Acid Stability
Interesting article and this seems to follow on nicely from the Di Methyl Sulfide discovery a while back.
Not sure what sort of life would exist on Venus, or perhaps may do at a later date in the future but the discovery of basic building blocks, esp of Amino Acids is important and may help us look for life on other planets & moons in the solar system or exo-planets and exo-moons around other stars.

Dark stars
'Dark stars': Dark matter may form exploding stars, and observing the damage could help reveal what it's made of
More research into Dark Stars. In this instance, the research is looking at whether exploding stars are linked to the formation of Dark matter.

This Is How the Body’s Building Blocks Are Made
Interesting article from SciTechDaily on how some of the human bodies basic building blocks are made. These are the proteins that make up other more complex components of the human body, This is linked to research into how ribosomes work

Robot car 4 (updates)
I have now re-built the Robot car, using an acrylic sheet material for the chassis, different wheels and also used hot glue to secure everything together more securely.
The other difference is that I also used hot glue to put this together.
The micro:bit car is also now working. Only using some basic example code at the moment.,

STEM Group 23rd March 2024 Write up
Good session today, more updates from Helen. More work on the Lenovo, but we decided that it really does need a bigger hard disk. We also need the installation media for the next meeting on the 6th April.
Did more work with Scratch and some coding in the afternoon.
The sessions need much more structure, so we can plan better what we are going to do, and therefore what to bring in terms of resources.
Next event 6th April
