Looks like the new Zoom terms and conditions now allow training AI on user content with no opt out. 🤣 See section 10.2

I am not too sure what data is shared, or how it is used, but big tech is clearly incapable of playing fairly, we have companies using all uploaded data to train AI, for example photos, text, code anything and usually the consent is given via terms and conditions so end users are so tied in to closed systems, the users auto consent weather they like it or not.

The fact that zoom is used by organisation such as child protection agencies also for me RAISES SERIOUS CONCERNS.

Please consider using an alternative that actually protects and respects privacy such as Big Blue Button

I had to attend a meeting using teams earlier, it got cancelled, so despite just loading up the lobby room in the browser, it still leaves cookies behind. The concern is the size here.,

I will leave this with people. In the meantime Big Blue Button is a viable, secure, safe, easy to use and privacy respecting, open source alternative.

On an end note it seems Edge also 'leaks' information on sites visited.

I have made a 5 minute video to showcase some of the features of the Big Blue Button video conferencing and teaching platform. I am not very confident with this, but I do try and get some main points across.

There are lots of really nice features, including video sharing, the latest release also has a much improved whiteboard feature.

I am just testing BigBlueButton 2.6.0-rc.8!. I can upload a presentation from inside a room, but can't from the room set up area.

I get an error as per video below, (note vokoscreen-ng is playing up)

I am sharing on my blog so that if anyone reading this, has a similar problem or can reproduce using rc.8 then we can confirm. I have reported error to the dev-list

I am involved in helping to test big blue button. I just noticed something odd, if I use the custom layout from the “Layout Settings Modal” option, then I can also see propagate layout.

With the other options the propagate option doesn't appear.

Not too sure if this is a bug or it is meant to happen. I have made this Vokoscreen video to try and illustrate. It also makes it easier to share what the issue seems to be.

This is happening on a recent beta build, installed on the Faircam server.

Big Blue Button and Overleaf Testing

I am currently involved in testing various software resources, this include Big Blue Button and Overleaf.

The instance of BBB I am using is hosted by Faircam, we have access to both the current stable release,but also the alpha release. This allows for testing of the software. I am part of the BBB developer google group, so can report issues and have just joined the Users' list to discuss there too.

Overleaf Online LaTeX Editor testing

With Overleaf, users are given access to new features to try out, so right now they are introducing a new editor, so the options are the Beta editor, Normal editor and the usual Rich text editor. As I prefer to just write in LaTeX, then I am using the normal editor, but also switching between that and the new test editor and can fill in a simple online form to give feedback on new features.

We are pleased to announce BigBlueButton 2.5.0-beta.1!

This beta iteration of BigBlueButton 2.5 includes some packaging and configuration improvements and several fixes. It also includes an upgrade of Tomcat to mitigate any danger of Spring Framework Remote Code Execution (CVE-2022-22965) by upgrading Tomcat**

Note that BBB 2.3.x and BBB 2.4.x (the maintained versions) are safe, see #14719

At this point we're “feature complete” for BBB 2.5.x Switching to “beta” to iterate with increased focus on testing and clean up bugs. Development is moved on to the next release, BBB 2.6, with pull requests targeting branch 'develop' until we branch out into 'v2.6.x-release' when it's time for 2.6.0-alpha.1

Note that it runs on Ubuntu Focal (20.04). If you have a BigBlueButton version earlier than alpha.5, please check the alpha.5 release notes as they contain imporant information on upgrading.

I am in the process of helping to test Big Blue Button 2.4

This is going well and the improvements from 2.3 are welcome.

The faircam server will soon be running 2.4 once it is out of beta / testing and the test server will move to run the 2.5 beta / testing software.

It is quite nice when you find a problem and are able to report it, gives you a good feeling you have made a contribution to a wider project that is used all over the world.

I have actually made a suggestion on the developer forum for a feature that would be useful. So as with finding problems, making feature requests is also really good.

In most cases one of the the BEST thing you can do, is to let the developers know that the software works. I think this often gets overlooked, developers are human after all.
