Exploration of my research style

This morning, I was editing my experimental paper and thinking about whether I should do more experiments or push my advisor to submit it. My advisor said that we don't understand everything in our work, and there are still things unexplored, but this paper already has plenty of work... For science, for one paper, it's only about when we should stop exploring.

There might not be a best answer for this question. One argument could be, you have already done plenty of work and doing more will not contribute your paper that much and you will not make it jump from level 2 to level 1.

Obviously, my advisor was hesitating. I thought maybe I should be more active and initiate the decision making point.

If I were younger, I may go and ask my advisor to submit it, as soon as possible, as fast as possible, just like what I did / what I was told when I was an undergrad in China. People like fast publication. People prefer longer publication list. That sort of value has been inside my mind for a really really long time. On the contrary side, I also want to be a scientist who does not pursue frame, honor. I don't want to be judged by how long the publication list is, but the quality of my work. When the two thoughts met and fought each other, I got anxious.

I recalled one Chinese song named “你是如此的难以忘记 Ni Shi Ru Ci De Nan Yi Wang Ji”, to which I listened for a whole trip to Caltech last Christmas. Caltech. E.

Caltech Beckman Institute

E. The greatest scientist I have ever met. What will he do? What will his wife do?

But why do you care so much about them? Do you agree or disagree with their style?

Is your story complete? Have you got enough results that are able to support your story? Do you want to explore more?

There might never be a best strategy for that question. It's all about you. It's all about what kind of work YOU want to publish.
