PC Build 2

As the stem group is no longer running, myself and one of the attendees are still working on a few projects.

On Saturday, 25th May we tested an external hard disk, that was donated a while back and found in room 12 cupboard. This is now up and running, we also set up one of the 2.5” SATA hard drives from a netbook as a ventoy disk, so we can install other operating systems easily.

We also spent a lot of time cleaning the keyboards and mice, still not sure if we will be given the computers, but we will at least have clean keyboards and mice (or the library will).

We also took the big Bertha hdd, and cleaned this up as best we could. It was encrusted in dirt or something from where it had been either stored or used. This is just a normal HDD that was donated, just had big Bertha written on it.

Back at home, I installed Mint 17 on my netbook, having collected a SSD hard disk and 2gb ram. This is now running much better.

During the day, I was dropping in to room 13 to see what the Tinkerers group were up to, it was just Helen and Vance, but they were busy looking at various projects and discussing the way forward for their group.

We have planned the next meet up so we can carry on cleaning stuff.
