Frugal Tips For Building a Granite Coffee Table
Granite coffee tables are a great addition to any living room-providing a beautiful, elegant look that only comes from stone. Considering the current state of the economy, however, getting your hands on one of these prizes may not be all that financially sound. Our saving grace is, however, that there are frugal individuals out there that pave the way for us less-savvy folks to get away with things cheaper. From one of those penny-pinching people, know that it can be done with a little creativity, patience, and perhaps a couple granite remnants. Tip #1: Take your time. It's understandable that you would want that gorgeous coffee table in your house right now, but good things come to those who wait, and particularly those that spend lots of time searching out and shopping around. Don't take the first piece of granite you can find thinking it's the end-all-be-all of granite slabs. There is a wide variety out there waiting to be found, you just have to know where to look. Tip #2: Know where to look. The internet is a beautiful and mysterious creature. It carries with it a multitude of information-but it must be sorted through, and that can be a headache (and require even more of that time). There are websites out there, however, that are tailored specifically for locating granite and this can cut down the headache substantially. Also, talk to stone contractors in your area to get their advice on the best place to purchase granite locally. The less it has to travel, the better. Tip #3: Think remnants. Perhaps you've never even heard the term, “granite remnants,” but it can be a powerful tool when you're looking for a cost effective way to build a stone coffee table. Understand that you don't have to purchase a whole slab of granite for a small project like this-and there are people out there with leftovers from larger projects that are in pristine condition, perfect for you. Don't buy more than you have to, or you'll certainly end up losing money in the end. What use do you have for a huge chunk of granite? I suppose more coffee tables could be made... but spending less is always better. So there you have it. Just be patient, and make sure to scope out all of your options. You can beat this economy and find something that will fit your living room perfect-just think creatively and talk to some local experts on the subject.
