Composite Doors – Safe and Secure
They are one of the most secure doors on the market today offering all that a homeowner requires to give peace of mind, and especially to keep out that unwanted guest. The sturdy but elegant door is taking the home improvement industry by storm and on a daily basis it is now replacing hundreds of dated aluminium doors and suspected weak uPVC doors.
Composite Doors and the Secure Locking System.
Well you can have the most attractive and elegant door available today but if you don't have a good locking system to compliment the door what's the use. The majority of professional companies that are involved in the home improvement industry rely so much on having a good name that it is imperative that they supply doors and entry systems that have the best in locking devices. The multipoint locking system with either shoot-bold or hooking mechanism is the best available and by using either you will feel adequately secure in your home or apartment.
Glazing Options in the Composite Collection
There are many choices when it comes to the glazing of the composite door, from double glazed units in toughened glass to the now more popular treble glazed units.
Double glazed units are manufactured by using two pieces of glass which are separated by a spacer bar filled with silica gel to absorb any moisture which may have remained in the unit after it's made.
Treble glazed units is made by using three pieces of glass separated by the use of two spacer bars filled with silica gel which absorbs any excess moisture, thus creating a dry air effect.
When using the treble glazed option the centre piece of glass can be used to create special designs like a stained feature or hand-cut designer bevels which will enhance the appearance of the door. The decorative elements used are now inside the unit and will make cleaning the door far easier as no dust or dirt can gather around the designs. As always the exterior and interior panes of glass are safety glass and will conform to the industry standards EN12150.
Design Options
There are no limits when designing an attractive door so let your imagination run wild. For most homes the use of a single door is common, but they are available in a multitude of colours and styles. In more recent built homes the door is centred between to sidelights, this gives you many options in terms of design. You first decide on the weatherglaze door you're going to use and the design in the glazed area. Now, you can carry this design right into the glazed section of the two sidelights. Using a nice gold or silver letterbox and house number as an additional accessory will also enhance the overall appearance of the door.

Strong and Reliable UPVC Window Frames and Doors Show Their Worth
In the past many burglars and thieves will have targeted your home's vulnerable points to gain entry to your home, this typically meant an unlocked door or an open window, but these days most people are security-conscious enough to know to close and lock these before they leave their home for work or going out anywhere. The trouble is that the determined thief will not stop at a locked door and may try to break and enter using force.
With some older windows and doors this wouldn't take much time and in many cases could be worryingly quiet about it as well, older windows and doors could be easy targets for your average thief and they can make quick work of an old splintered door and gain access to your home.
The best way to ensure this heartbreaking and scary situation doesn't befall your family you should look at UPVC windows and doors and how they could increase your home security. UPVC is a hardened plastic material that is strong and durable enough to withstand the strongest or most desperate entry attempt. With stronger materials unlikely to splinter or crack you won't need to be as worried about giving thieves an easy ride.
The other benefits are that with plastic doors they can have sophisticated locking mechanisms built into the doors from the very beginning of the manufacturing process. Wooden doors need to be bored and carved out to fit locks which are not always the most secure way to keep your doors and windows safe. With multiple locking points your doors will not have a weak spot to exploit and ensures your doors stay shut.
Windows now also have a much more secure locking mechanism with most UPVC windows having restricting bolts to stop them from being opened wide enough for someone to enter your home as well as having locks that either require just a push button release from the inside or can be locked with a key to ensure they are secured against intruders.
With many other benefits such as energy saving features found in modern UPVC windows and doors you could find that by increasing your security in the form of UPVC replacements you could reap many more benefits that you may find worthwhile.

How To Adjust A Upvc Door And Prevent Possible Damage To The Lock – Saving You ££
UPVC doors are extremely common in parts of the uk due to their relatively high levels of security along with superb draft proofing and low maintenance properties. There are quite a few problems that can occur over time and most can be prevented or sorted fairly easily. If problems aren't sorted and left to get worse you may end up having to change the whole locking mechanism which can easily cost over £100.
A lot of the problems we are going to discuss are caused by various things like lots of dry or wet weather making the property move slightly.Weight of the door causing it to drop, especially when large glass panels are fitted.Loose frame fixings or just poor adjustments from new are other causes of problems.
Most upvc door locks operate by lifting the handle to throw the multiple bolts etc then you turn the key. Some locks operate by turning the key only and others by just lifting up, which automatically locks everything. We will assume you have the standard lift up type for these problems but most of it applies to the other types too.
The most likely problem you will encounter is when you go to lift the handle up and it seems “stiff”. If this is happening please try to fix the problem or call in an expert. If you continue to carry on using the lock there is a very good chance the lock will fail and the worse case scenario is it fails in the locked position when your outside. This will mean getting a locksmith to not only get you in but also most likely change the whole locking mechanism, not a cheap scenario.
What could be the cause of this is a few things. First up open the door and try to lock the door in the open position, if it works fine then the problem is with the keeps or door adjustment, the lock is fine. If you find the handle doesn't move take a look at the face of the lock near to the latch and see if there is a small plunger sticking out. This would normally be depressed when the door is closed so to check the lock push this in with your finger and then try lifting the handle, if its easy to use then your locks fine.
If your lock is stiff in the open position the lock has the fault, it may only need lubricating so a few drops of 3in 1 oil along the strip may help, PLEASE DON'T USE WD40. This is for cleaning away oil etc and although in the short term may work it wont help long term. If the oil hasn't worked it may be several other things but there too many to list in this article, please ring a locksmith for help
If the problem is with the keeps on the frame take a good look at them, look for shiney spots which indicate wear. Some keeps have adjustment built in to them , others require the keep is moved. At this point don't adjust anything. If it appears you have more than 2 keeps “rubbing” it may be easier to adjust the door. Some doors have adjustable hinges, adjusted with an allen.Others dont but in both cases doors can be adjusted by a technique called “toe and heeling”. This another subject and quick Google will bring up lots of sites discussing this in depth.
If you wish to adjust the keep first use any adjustment screws. If you cant adjust the keep undo the screws and remove it, now try to lock the door.If the door locks fine you know only that keep is a problem. If its still stiff remove other suspect keeps until you eliminate the bad ones. Refit the removed keeps one by one and test the door each time you fit one. It may take some time to do this and its where experience can make the job a lot quicker. If your getting stuck call a locksmith

What to Look For When Buying Furniture Online
Searching for online furniture stores comes with a number of advantages. This type of shopping is convenient and saves you time, energy and money. What's better is that you are not restricted to only buy in your local area, with many of the suppliers shipping throughout the country and delivering directly to your door.
At the same time looking for the right furniture stores online can be a daunting process. You may be nervous to purchase an item you haven't seen in person or tried out, this is very true when buying larger items such as beds and lounge furniture.
This why there are certain things to look for when buying furniture online to ensure you choose the items that are best for your particular requirements and space.
First you need to choose a furniture store online. If you type in a particular type of item, you will be welcomed by many companies, which is why you need to narrow down your search to up to three companies.
Start by reading through their pages to ensure they offer the items you are looking for at the price you want to pay. Next you can do a search for the company name and read through customer reviews on review sites and forums. These are a great place to get honest reviews from past and current customers, ensuring you choose a company with an excellent online reputation and reliable service.
With your three furniture stores narrowed down you will want to read each of the about us pages. An about us page can give you a lot of information on the company, how long they have been operating, the quality of products they supply and their main focus. Companies will always throw in that they are service orientated, but you will already know this from reading the customer reviews.
Make sure you take the time to read through their returns page. This is exceptionally important when buying anything online and can be the peace of mind you need to go ahead with the purchase. All companies that sell products online have to offer some form of returns process, this does not always apply to custom made items that have been manufactured based on your specific requirements. Ensure you are comfortable with their returns process and procedures before visiting their deliveries page.
One of the biggest advantages to finding furniture stores online is the convenience they provide. You place your order and it arrives on your doorstep, it doesn't get any easier than this. Of course when purchasing large items, you can expect to pay a delivery charge. Each company also has their own timeframe to deliver items. Both of which you will want to take into consideration.
Remember furniture stores that hand make their own pieces will take longer on turnaround than a company that supplies flat packed pieces.
Only ever purchase from an online furniture store that guarantees your security. They should also give you other contact information, enabling you to place your order over the phone should you prefer. It is recommended that you only purchase from a company that also offers a store you can visit and see some of the items for yourself, this always offers necessary peace of mind when placing an online order.
When choosing the pieces you are interested in, ensure you go through each photograph carefully and imagine it in your space. Read the description thoroughly, giving you insight into the product including materials, quality and anything else the company feels you should know.
Finally always check the measurements before making any purchases, you want to ensure when the piece arrives it will fit into the room with ease.

Wicker Furniture Reviews – Dining Sets
Having a good dining set is very important for those who entertain guests frequently at dinner. Wicker dining sets are some of the best dining sets that you can get in the world. These masterfully crafted sets not only look good but they will also last you for many years. Other than that, you should choose wicker because it is environmentally friendly. Thousands of common homeowners and others are picking up wicker furniture for this very reason. Wicker furniture is also quite economic in most cases and hence that serves as an added attraction.
In this article I will review a few dining sets that are perfect for most homes. They are in different styles, showcasing some of the styles that you can expect from wicker dining sets. We start with a set called the Tokyo Dining Set.
This set is a very elegant set with an exotic touch in the design. It is made up of wicker that has been woven over an underlying framework of wood. It is a beautiful set that seats four people around a square table. The color combination is normal wicker with black wooden framework. The chairs have the black wooden framework that also makes the legs. The perfectly square table is also built in the same manner but also has additional black wooden linings on the edges.
The chairs on this set are mid back and have a casual feel about them. They have a pronounced recline and also armrests. Thus they make the set more of a semi-formal dining set than something completely and totally formal.
The next set is called Daytona and it has a much lighter color scheme with a touch of the designer. It is made up of light colored wicker that has been woven around a mixed framework of wicker and wood. The chairs have wooden legs and the back rest area has a part of the wicker framework exposed through the middle. This gives the entire set a very distinct designer look. The wooden framework has a grayish blue color that provides a nice contrast to the light colored wicker.
The rectangular table for six has a similar construction and is glass topped. But the glass lies over a solid woven layer of wicker, so it is not see-through. See-through tables are undesirable for dinner tables.
The next set is a classy one and it is called the New Mercury Dining Set. It has a nice beige and brown color combination. The chairs and the table are all constructed with woven wicker on a framework of wood. The wood has a brown finish that makes for a nice contrast with the light beige colored wicker.
The table has a broad and solid construction and has a thick wooden framework in between which you have a solid layer of woven wicker that makes for the tabletop.
Wicker dining sets can be highly varied and quite creative. You just have to choose the right set for your home.

What's In, What's Out with Homebuyers in 2006
The majority of full-time real estate agents hear a lot of feedback every day all year from homebuyers as they visit potential resale and new construction homes. They wonder why builders, developers and home-sellers add finishes or upgrades that say “cheap” or “soon-to-be-out-of-date”, in addition to owners who think the laminate wood-grained kitchen cabinets look fine. Old stand-bys like solid oak hardwood floors might not be on the design edge, but quality and durablity out sell trendy any day in residential real estate. After a year of property showings in 2005 and eight previous years with homebuyers as well as requests from consumers after the review of “1001 Tips for Buying and Selling a Home” in The New York Times I've complied a list of home runs and strike-outs for those looking to sell to homebuyers in 2006.
What's In
-Smaller square footage homes. After years of sprawl, new construction buyers want less space with better finishes.
-Quality kitchen cabinets. With the kitchen/greatroom the center of family living, buyers today are looking at furniture style cabinets.
-Bamboo wood floors. It could over-take maple as the favorite light-colored wood flooring in 2006.
-Wall space for flat screen TV's. Specify power and cable boxes close to locations where homebuyers want to place the latest in visual technology. The popular location for installation in new construction is over the fireplace.
-Multiple and high-powered phone lines. With modems, dsl, wi-fi moving into mainstream use, tech-savvy homebuyers want “wired” homes.
-Seperate shower stalls and bathtubs in master bathrooms. The growing divide among “soakers” and “showerers” is increasing. Not having one of each in a master bath could quelch a purchase.
-Built-in home stereo systems are a must-have for many audiophiles. Wireless hasn't quite made the pre-wired audio system home obsolete, at least not in 2006.
-Balconies and decks wider than 3 feet. Homebuyers want usable outdoor space. Big enough for a bistro table and chairs and a couple of pots for container gardening.
-Guest parking. With the rise in condominiums, lofts and zero-lot line subdivisions, homebuyers want their guests to have a hassle-free experience when they arrive at their new home. Buy or lease an extra space for family or friends.
-Dog Parks. Dogs and homeownership go hand-in-hand. The new way to meet neighbors in the hood is to intereact with them at the dog park. Before buying a home, check out the nearest one.
-Ranch or one level homes. The baby-boomers are discovering their utility in droves.
-Second Homes. The baby-boomers are also keeping this market segment strong. Demand for second homes was still on the upside in 2005, but if primary home demand weakens, the second home market will historically follow.
-Seller give-backs. With a more balanced market in most metro markets, requests by buyers to pay closing costs have increased, and some sellers are paying them.
-Carbon Monoxide detectors. Home inspectors red flag homes that have only smoke detectors. Inexpensive and life-saving, install one on every floor of a home before opening to homebuyers.
What's Out
-The real estate bubble. It's a correction with a soft decline in prices.
-Ebony-stained hardwood floors. You're better off tearing it out than trying to sand the ebony out to refinish.
-Single-rod closets. Buyers want the most storage in the least amount of space. Organizers accomplish this.
-Dark rooms with small windows. Natural light can over-rule a lot of other problems in a home.
-Wallpaper. Buyers never have the same taste as decorators. Take it down (carefully) and paint.
-Builder grade light fixtures and interior fixtures used outside. The right fixtures say quality to buyers.
-Mid-century awnings on exterior windows and doors. Buyers want to let the sun shine in.
-Mirrored backsplash's in kitchens and everywhere else. Mirrored walls and ceilings say 1980's hedonism.
-Committment (strong, bold trendy) colors. They look great in magazines, but as one buyer said to me “I don't live in a magazine”.
-Gas grills that need their own tank. Buyers prefer the gas piped from the house so they don't have to replace tanks.
-Dropped ceilings. It might have updated a bungalow in the 1950's, but buyers want as much vertical space as possible.
-Flipping. Increasing inventories of unsold homes is increasing, signaling weakening demand by all buyers. If you are holding properties to flip, prepare to place them on market after the holidays.
On the way out.
-Stainless steel appliances. Word-of-mouth says the cleaning requirements aren't for everyone.
-Laminate flooring that looks like hardwood. Not only can buyers tell it's not wood, the noise it makes with high-heel shoes is the deal killer during property showings.
