Tinkerers Meeting – June 2025

The next meeting of the Tor bay Tinkerers group will be on Saturday 28th June 2025 from 9:30am

We meet at:-

STEAM Café & Discovery Centre 13 Torbay Road, Paignton.

We usually start off in the café, then move in to the back room, where the discovery centre is. However, we may also visit the Tea Shed which is in the Hyperspace café, this is located a short distance away in Victoria Square.

We will let the staff at the café know where we are, please ask.

So further to my previous post, I am starting to work on adding items to the Map, mostly in St Mary Church and Paignton Town Centre.

If you log in, you can see what I have done and how others have helped with this too.

I will try and reach out to Torbay Community Builders to see if anyone else can help or recruit volunteers to help with the project, as local knowledge is really essential for accuracy on where places are etc.

Created by the Bruce Murray Laboratory for Planetary Visualization at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, the interactive Global CTX Mosaic of Mars map (opens in new tab) is a mosaic created from images taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter — more specifically, its black-and-white Context Camera.

Open Street Map contributions 2

Back in January, I wrote about some contributions that I was making to Open Street Map. You can read the post here

I have recently made some more updates, mostly around two local schools changing use.

1. Devon School of English is now Preston Bridge School
2. Tower House School is now St Michael's CE Primary School

I have updated the map and added some notes. Details can be found on my OSM profile

The project would really benefit from some local help, as it is better for one person to create a note and then have a 2nd person resolve this, that way there are some checks / balances to the contributions to ensure accuracy.
