Open bike lane during construction

All too often in the USA bicycles are treated as third class vehicles in construction zones. Effort is taken to keep car and truck traffic flowing but bicycles are forgotten about. Usually the corporation doing the work will just close the bike lane, put up a sign that says “share the road” and that is it. Bicyclists are expected to merge with cars and trucks going 45-70mph and just hope that each driver decides to not kill them today.

This morning I was pleasantly surprised. I was out for a early morning ride and came across this small construction zone. bike path construction zone

Obviously someone had taken the time to think about how to keep the workers and the bicyclists safe. A simple line of concrete barriers, placed properly to not block the bike lane, keep the bike lane open and everyone was safe at no extra cost.
